General
A guardian home program is where we place our breeding dogs that have had at least one litter, with local families and we retain the breeding rights and ownership until he or she is retired from our program.Once they are retired, full ownership will transfer to the guardian family and they will get to keep the dog forever.Becoming a Guardian Home gives you the opportunity to have one of our young adults as a family pet while he or she remains in our program at no upfront cost to you!By offering the guardian program, we are able to ensure that our dogs get to live the best possible lives in a loving, caring home where they receive as much one on one attention as possible.
No, you will receive a top-quality dog that has been hand-picked by us to remain in our program at no upfront cost.
Guardians are responsible for all transportation to and from us.If the dog has any medical issues not related to pregnancy or breeding, then the guardian will be responsible to take them to and from the vet.
Guardians are responsible for all “regular” dog care including providing food, treats, toys, etc. They are also responsible for normal vet care that is not breeding-related.The dog must be kept up to date on all vaccinations, flea and tick treatments, and heart worm meds at the guardian's expense.Guardians are also required to pay for grooming unless they opt to do it themselves.
Have a fully fenced and dog-proof yard.Teach basic commands such as sit, stay, lay-down, and “no”, as well as how to walk politely on a leash.Must be willing and able to train using positive reinforcement only.Allow the dog inside and to be a part of the family and not leave them outside 24/7.Be willing and able to socialize the dog with other dogs as well as people.Provide adequate exercise and mental stimulation.Be able to bring the dog to and from the breeder within 24-36 hr notice.Must be able to communicate, cooperate, and coordinate with the breeder effectively.Contact the breeder in the event of any serious illness or accident.Be willing to pay for desexing when it comes time to retire from the breeding program.
Provide guardian family with a healthy dog at no cost.Pay for health testing such as DNA through Orivet Labs.Pay for all breeding-related expenses Teaching the guardian family how to detect a heat cycle and how to care for a pregnant dog if they don’t already know.Provide lifetime support for the dog.Always be willing to take the dog back if the guardian family can no longer care for them.
Becoming a guardian home for one of our dogs is a huge commitment and a decision that should not be made lightly. Please keep in mind that we retain full legal ownership of the dog until they are retired from our program and guardians have a legal obligation to follow the contract. Our dogs have been hand selected to benefit and improve our program further.Becoming a guardian home is not for everyone! Please consider this commitment carefully.
As mentioned above, our dogs have been hand selected to be a part of our program, and in most cases may be irreplaceable. We do not allow dogs to be “bought” from our program. However, they will get to be yours forever once they are retired from our program. Please be sure you can make this commitment.
The dog will be health tested at the breeder’s expense.Families are allowed to visit their female and her puppies any time they like.Once retired and spayed/neutered, full rights and ownership are transferred to you.Knowing your canine companion is blessing families all over the country. We consider all of our puppy/dog owners family, but when you become a guardian you are truly part of our team. You are getting a top-quality dog at no upfront cost.
Even if we don’t have puppies getting microchipped and vaccinated, our weekly costs are on average $4500. If we sell ONE puppy a week, we aren’t even covering wages. Breeders are in it for the love of dogs not for the money, so don’t get offended when a breeder turns down an offer of $500 for a puppy. To break down some of theseFOODOur puppies alone, go through 2 boxes of mince a day, that’s $196 a weekOur adult dogs go through 2.5 boxes of meat a day, that’s $175 a weekOur puppies also go through about 1 bag of dry food a week, that’s $67Our Adults also go through about 1 bag of dry food a week, that’s $68The puppies also get 3 bags of vegies a day with their mince and dry, that’s $105 a weekSo just in food, that equals $611 a week to ensure our dogs and puppies are fed top-quality food. HAVING AND RAISING A LITTER OF PUPS TO 8 WEEKSFirst up is food. To feed eight pups for 8 weeks not counting the first 2 to 3 weeks will cost a minimum of $588.Before we choose which dogs to mate, they both get a full DNA profile done by Orivet labs. This will cost about $215 each even with our breeder discount, that’s $430.Before we even mate our girls and boys, they both need a pre-mating check, to ensure they are healthy enough to have puppies. This will cost on average $150 each. That is $300 before we even think about having pups. Then there are extra costs for a pregnant dog like vet checks and extra food but if all goes well it’s not a lot extra. After the pups are born, they will get worm and flea treatments every 2 weeks from 2 weeks of age until 8 weeks of age. If top-quality products are used this will cost about $10 per pup, per treatment. So, if you have 8 pups and there are at least 4 treatments, that will cost $320.Within 8 weeks of the mother giving birth, she will need a postpartum check to make sure she is recovering well. This will cost on average $150.Once the puppies are between 6 to 8 weeks of age, they will all need to be vet checked, vaccinated, and microchipped. The vet check will cost only about $50, but times 8 is $400. The vaccinations will cost about $120 per pup but you can expect to pay more, $120 x 8 is $960. Then there are the microchips, which can be anywhere from $80 - $150. Let’s just say they are $100 per pup, that’s still $800.When the pups hit 8 weeks of age and are ready to go to their forever homes, there are even more costs. First, there’s the change of ownership and microchip registration which we do for you. This costs $25 per dog. Then we provide you with 6 weeks of free puppy insurance, we give you a puppy pack valued at over $100, We provide you will 5 free training sessions that we pay $85 per puppy that is under 12 weeks of age and more if they are older.Once all the puppies in the litter have gone home, the bills are not over yet. We then must register the litter with MDBA at $55 per puppy. So in total (if all goes well) raising a litter of pups to just 8 weeks will cost at least, $6068 just to have ONE LITTER! That is not even including staff wages! Quite often we have litters of up to 12 pups and sometimes we have them until 12 weeks, which will cost, up to $12,136.OTHER BUSINESS COSTSPublic Liability insurance $5448 a yearWages up to $1000 a week depending on staffWork cover $2656 a yearMDBA fees $100 a yearDAB $240 a yearAdult registration fees $1800 a yearCouncil fees and permits to build infrastructure $18,900Audit fees $3,400 a yearAdult annual health checks $120 per dog per yearQuarterly worming for adult dogs, $10 per dog every 3 monthsAnnual C5 booster shots for adult dogs $100 per dog per yearTotal for a year - $67,064 and this isn’t all but it’s the costs we have to pay before we can even make one cent!We also aim to donate around 6 to 10 dogs per year so that’s a loss of between $20,400 and $34,00 NOW WE HAVE A BACKYARD BREEDERThey might have one or two dogs that cost $500 each. They quite often don’t DNA test so you have no idea if the pup is actually healthy or not, that’s $0They usually won’t worm them or treat fleas, that is $0They will not get pre-mating checks or post-partum checks, that’s $0They may or may not microchip them but if they do, that’s $800 for 8 pupsThey wont have membership fees, audit fees or any of the fees mentioned above, that's $0They usually sell them before 8 weeks of age to cut costsBecause they won’t vaccinate them, that will cost you 3 x $120They will most likely feed them cheap food so probably $100 in foodThe puppies often live in a small cage or on a chain and get little to no human interaction or love. You may think it’s great buying a pup for $500, but you will be up for so many costs and have no health guarantee or insurance or a lifetime guarantee like you will get from a breeder.

Your puppy needs to be registered with your local council at the age of 12 weeks. You will need to contact your local council for the relevant forms required.De-sexing can be done from the age of 4 months old. Although we recommend closer to 6 months. Please consult your veterinarian for further advice.Your puppy has been bred in accordance with the MDBA registration requirements for pedigree dogs.A litter registration will be submitted to the MDBA once the last pup from the litter has gone home. Individual dog papers will be issued to the buyer at the address supplied as soon as they have been desexed and we receive the desexing certificate. What if i want to breed with my dog and not get it desexed? All of our puppies are sold on limited register, which means not for breeding. When you get your registration certificate, it will say in big capital letters at the top, NOT FOR BREEDING. We are only allowed to sell a dog or puppy on mains register if the new owner is a registered breeder with a source number. Puppies sold on mains register are also a lot more expensive. To stop backyard breeding, we are now not allowed to give you your puppies registration certificate, until we receive a copy of the desexing certificate and/or vet report stating this.In conclusion, if you want to buy a JewelPark puppy, and you are not a registered breeder, not getting your dog desexed is NOT an option. This will also be in the sale contract that you will sign.
